Analysis of video footage

I have uploaded some of the footage which I took for my music video onto my blog. Some of the clips I will be including in my video but some I may not. I have analysed what I like about the footage and what I dislike.

I intend to use this clip at the beginning of the song. I like the way Sarah is singing and looking directly into the camera which maintains the audience’s attention as it enhances the fact that she is singing to them when she is actually singing about her ex-boyfriend. The close up shot captures her facial expressions and her thoughts and feelings which are further enhanced through her body language. An example of this is when she throws the Polaroid pictures away connoting that she doesn’t want anything to do with that him anymore.

This clip denotes James turning up at Sarah’s house and through his body language it shows that he is begging her to see if they will be able to sort their relationship out. I like the way you cannot see Sarah’s face in this image as it concentrates and focuses more on James point of view and how he feels. It leaves the audience to think and question what Sarah might be feeling at this point and what her next action might be. This makes the clip enticing and would lead the audience to want to know what happens next.

In this clip Sarah is singing directly into the camera drawing the audience’s attention to make sure the audience are focusing on her and the lyrics which she is singing. I like the way this is a close up shot of Sarah as this enables the audience to understand her true feelings and emotions through her facial expressions easily. However, I do not like how James is not visible in the background. This is because in this part of the song the lyrics entail how she thought that their relationship was going to last and I think it would be necessary to have him appear in the clip as she is singing about him.  When he does make an appearance towards the end of the clip he looks quite confused and out of place. It kind of gives an impression that he didn’t realise we were filming as he doesn’t look prepared. Due to this problem I am not going to be using this clip in the music video.

This clip shows Sarah and James arguing in Sarah’s bedroom after they have just come back from a party. This clip is intended to portray that something had happened at the party and that they had some sort of disagreement which led Sarah to be upset and angry with her boyfriend. James is attempting to comfort her and calm her down but Sarah is rejecting him and eventually tells him to go away. I believe that this clip would be good to use in my music video as I feel it is quite dramatic and the acting skills are fairly good as they both show depict there true feelings in the situation which they are both in.
